3rd meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorism

             On 14 June 2017 the 3rd meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorism was held in Dushanbe. From the Tajik side, the interdepartmental delegation was headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Nizomiddin Zohidi and Indian delegation was headed by Joint Secretary (Counter-Terrorism), Ministry of External Affairs of India Shri Mahaveer Singhvi.

 

Delegations exchanged national experience in the fight against terrorism, extremism and organized crime. A constructive exchange of views was held on assessment of terrorist threats at national and regional levels.

 

Delegations shared common views on many topical issues relating to ensuring regional and international security and noted the need for effective interaction of relevant structures of the two countries in the fields of counter-terrorism and anti-narcotics.

 

Delegations discussed common approaches to the phenomenon of foreign terrorists and fighters. In this context, the radicalization of the population and measures aimed at countering terrorist and extremist groups in the information space were discussed.

 

The Indian delegation offered to organize special training courses for specialists of Tajikistan in the field of combating international terrorism and ensuring information security.

 

Delegations agreed on increasing counter-terrorism cooperation within the framework of the UN and the SCO. They also exchanged views on other mutually beneficial areas of Tajik-India cooperation.

 

Delegations agreed to hold the next regular meeting of the Joint Interdepartmental Group in New Delhi.
